Hymn Lyrics Cross Reference

This indexes Hymns Old and New and similar books in other languages.

The online version of the Hymn Lyrics Cross Reference runs in most browsers. It will be updated from time to time when errors are found or reported, or when additional books are indexed. It presently indexes by numbers only; various printed books and ebooks are available for searching for a particular hymn in a particular language by text or title.

If you wish an offline version, you can access the online version, and then save the HTML file locally, for offline access. There are presently no automatic updates for saved versions: if you need a newer version, you will have to repeat this process.

Some browsers may ask about security issues, due to the embedded Javascript program that does the searching. Some (especially mobile) browsers may complain about accessing local files when offline (or airplane mode). With most browsers, there is some way to bypass the security questions and/or errors produced due to being offline.

English/Spanish cross-reference lists

The following lists were compiled by Joel Boyd for those that have particular interest in cross-references between the current English hymnbook (Hymns Old and New 1987) and Spanish hymnbook (Himnos 2016). The lists include only those hymns that are included in both books.

This program and data file has received no updates since the author's death, and contains only a subset of the hymns and books indexed in the Hymn Lyrics Cross Reference. It is preserved here in his remembrance, and may be sufficient for some needs.

Vincent Occhipinti pioneered the ebook concept for Hymns Old and New, soon after the publication of the 1987 edition. The original, custom Windows program contained only the one hymnbook. Over time he added a version that ran on Windows Mobile, and 6 other hymnbooks in 5 other languages. Vincent was only age 60 when he died of adrenal cancer that had metastasized to his liver, kidney, and lymph nodes.

Information regarding Vincent's death from his wife, Carol Jean:

Would like to let my friends know that I lost my best friend and husband today. Vincent had a very very aggressive cancer that chemo could not touch. I am heartbroken. But Vincent was prepared and ready for the wonderful experience of heaven. He is at rest and I am thankful for that. It will be a very different life now for me but I do trust in the Lord's leading. I have felt the comfort of the prayers of my friends and I am grateful to you!
